How do I go about doing this? I'd like to install ScummVM on my iPod touch.

The file can be found here: http://www.scummvm.org/downloads/

Is it possible to install without jailbreaking? Because I am not willing to jailbreak my iPod.

Hmm does jailbreaking break anything? Will I be able to update my touch with official firmware, download and install iTunes apps, etc?

Anything that won't work like it used to be after a jailbreak?

Yea, your whole IPT. You won't believe it's the same chunk of hardware.

Let it out of jail and explore the possibilities !

It shouldn't break anything; just make sure you do plenty of reading ahead of time to know what you're in for. Sometimes people will complain that everything is screwed up after a jailbreak and then it'll turn out that oops, they also dipped their phone in a glass of milk, could that maybe be the problem? These days, the only real risk if something goes wrong is that you'll have to restore your phone (and re-sync all your music and apps), but as long as you're doing regular backups, this only costs you time rather than data. The only other potential drawback is that, depending on your exact model (and even your serial number), your jailbreak may be "tethered", which means that you have to connect it to a computer to reboot the phone if you ever turn it off (not put it to sleep with the lock button, but actually turn it completely off by holding the lock button for ten seconds and then sliding the red slider) or run the battery completely down. Most people don't find this to be a huge problem, but if you have a tethered jailbreak and regularly find yourself running the battery so far down that the phone shuts itself off when you have no access to a computer, it might be more of a hassle.

You can still install apps from the iTunes store after jailbreaking; you can even arrange the jailbroken apps from within iTunes the same way you do with App Store apps! Usually you have to wait a few days or weeks after Apple releases a firmware update before the jailbreaking community gets a patch prepared, though.

Whats this .deb file about?

.deb files are application packages that can be installed on your phone using its apt installer or dpkg package management software. The format was originally created for the Debian release of Linux, but is widely used on all kinds of unix-like OSes. All of the packages in Cydia are in .deb format, stored in remote repositories and accessed over the Internet. If you are testing an app or have an app that's not in a repo, you need to manually install it.

 ah, thanks anyway
