Install HP printer with driver, only (not HP Smart app)?

I need to install an HP inkjet printer for a client. Is there a way to do so without the HP Smart app? I hate these utility apps that are really mostly adware. The computer is running macOS Sonoma.

Perhaps… if the printer is supported by the basic drivers in macOS. If the printer is Wi-Fi use AirPrint or try to add printer using basic drivers via the Printers settings panel. If you can’t add, you might need to install the HP utility software.
