Install iLife '04 from iBook on an iMac?

I have a 17" iMac G4 1Ghz purchased in February 2003 with older iLife applications. My wife has a new iBook with iLife '04 apps. Can I install the iLife applications from the iBook's system restore DVD on the iMac? If, so how, and will it overwrite existing iPhoto data, etc.?

There is a program called pasafist that lets you extract certain installers from OS X restore CD, like the iLife '04 installers, but it takes a long time. Instead, I would just copy the apps from her ibook to your imac over your network. It shouldn't erase any of your data. If you want to copy garage band and its loops, I believe the loops are in the Library --> application support --> garageband folder, I can't check for you since I currently don't have garageband installed on this machine.

That won't work (the System Restore discs generally won't work on other systems - one exception being the Mac OS 9 install disc that came with older Macs) and is not recommended - in fact, doing that violates Apple's licensing agreement.

That may not be enough - Apple applications sometimes install things in other places besides the Application package (for example, "/Library/Application Support/appname" and "~/Library/Application Support/appname"). Plug-ins and other add-on components are also installed in other locations (usually in a folder somewhere inside "/Library" or "~/Library").

Well, I figured that!

iLife '04 isn't too expensive; especially if my wife purchases it with her student discount (which is how we've purchased the iMac, iBook, Panther update for the iMac, and other items). We'll buy this one, too.
