Hi

I' m a developer and I need to use Lion to test my application. I don' t want to install Lion in a dedicated partition. I need to have only one SO installed n my computer so I wan' t to install the DP4 in my main partition (upgrading snow leopard). Before doing so, however, let me ask you some questions:

1) Can I upgrade my DP4 to the final version of Lion when it is released in July?

2) I checked and all the applications that I need seems to work in Lion. There' s some big bug that make the system unusable?

3) Can I install it simply upgrading Snow Leopard or I need to do a new installation?

Thanks a lot!

1) I highly doubt that you can. You can try, but if I were you, I will do a clean install just to be safe with the system.

2) "I checked and all the applications that I need seems to work in Lion. There' s some big bug that make the system unusable?" I do not understand your question. They work, but there is a big bug? What?

3) You NEED to have Snow Leopard FIRST in order to install Lion, because you NEED Mac App Store in order to buy, download, and install Lion. Maybe Apple will make optional DVD or USB available.

People have reported issues with some system models. So you need to check against the reports of which systems have issues. ANd since you are a developer, check on the Apple developer forums for that information and ask there.

Yes, a clean install is a better solution so Time Machine works great in Lion DP4? (obviously i need to have a working backup to do a clean install and restore from Time Machine Backup)

The question is: I checked on internet and all applications that I need seems to work on Lion. but The question is: Do you have some trouble with some application in Lion? There are some bugs that makes the system unusable?

Yes you are right! :)

It updates snow leopard fine as long as your disk install is in good shape. Mine needed to be repaired first in single user mode.

If you use lots of software and lots of utilities, then there are bugs and some incompatibilities still. I assume they will slowly be fixed although some older apps may never. I don't think we know yet whether you can upgrade DP4 or further with the release. I have a test copy that I can update, but the install over snow leopard was so quick and relatively easy that I will keep Snow Lep updated till the final Lion comes out. All that said, I'm personally not sure whether I like Lion better than Snow Leopard. SL is a nice mature OS and Lion does have bugs, some nice features, and some things I don't like. ...(launchpad)
