Hey all,

I'm trying to install Big Sur as an upgrade over Catalina on a 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro. No matter what I do I cannot get past "Less than a minute remaining" on the progress bar. I've left it for six+ hours, nothing changes. Reboot, shows me the Catalina login screen, and goes back to the same progress bar. I can and always have restored back to Catalina without any problems when I can't get past this.

What am I doing wrong to get this installed? Anyone have any tips/ideas as to why this is happening?

Thanks.

I had the same problem until I read somewhere that the installer needs more than 62 gb space (on the disk you are installing to). I was trying to install on a 64 SD card (obviously even 64gb was not enough). So I tried again on a 500 gb WD ssd disk and it when very smoothly. It stayed on ” Less than a minute remaining” for approximately 20 minutes and then it booted.

I have over 500GB free on my SSD so it definitely can't be that.

Mine was also stuck at „one minute remaining“ at around 1/3 of the progress bar but I left my MacBook on over night and now 7 hours later it was actually installed!

And this was in a VM, right?

yeah, first i tried virtual box and then i used the Parallel Version 16 trial to install it. however it is slow AF (i installed it on an external usb 3 drive) so I ordered a bigger SSD for my macbook pro to install it directly on a VM on there. hopefully that helps speed things up.

I found a solution today. I removed the previous clean install on a different container and attempted reinstalling again. Went without a hitch this time.
