Hi all, bought my son the Nvidia GTX 680 Mac Edition for Christmas, and just wondering if there is anything I should know before I install it? It's going into an early 2008 dual quad core machine. Does Mountain Lion have all the necessary drivers built in? He also plays games in Windows 7, what about the drivers for that? After replacing his 5770 with this card, should I be pressing any reset buttons? Thanks. Any help would be great! Just don't want to disappoint him.

My advice? Just wait and figure it out with him. I think you'll be ok on OS X drivers (there is a link on the top thread about it though), but you'll need them for windows for sure.

Should be fine. No extra drivers needed to get it to work under Mountain Lion. Just plug in and your away. It should have two additional 6 pin power cables, similar to your ATI 5770.

Windows might need separate drivers and i don;t have any knowledge about that, I am afraid.

The card will run in Win7 without additional drivers--at least well enough so you can open your web browser and download the latest driver from NVidia.com.

Nvidias driver website will automatically detect the card, just select Windows 7 64bit (you are using 64, right?), download, and install.

Congrats on your purchase! You'll have likely have better gaming performance than a new Mac Pro (unless the nMP has Xfire) :)

Thanks. Going to install it today. It doesn't matter which power cable goes into either of the two sockets correct? So long as both get connected I should be good right? Also does it fit propery in slot 1?

How was the installation? Are you and your son impressed with the performance?

The card is running great in Windows 7, but it's running really poorly in OSX. Games studder more than they did with his 5870! Same top games are running perfect in Windows. Must be a driver issue. I'll have to down the latest drivers for OSX. I think he's running Mt. Lion.
