Hi,

I've updated my rom to MP51.0089.B00 in HighSierra 10.13.6, I've mac pro 5.1 (mi2010) Dual CPU.
I have an nvme ssd samsung 970 Evo plus installed in a Pcie port and is detected, I can format it easily, it has the last firmware 2B2QEXM7 already installed by Samsung.

My question: is it possible to boot the system with this nvme ssd without having to install the firmware 144.0.0.0.0, of a metal GC is imposed to get access to this last firmware? and I must install the rom 144.0.0.0.0 to get this nvme work. thanks

I found a Page with all newest Firmwareversions listed for downloads.

Can you confirm or disconfirm that the newest Firmware will support nvme??
I can not find any Info regarding this question. It would be nice if you had a source of Info aswell. Thanks

It's realy weird. The page was up just a minute back and is now down.
I downoaded the MP51.007F.B03 (EFI 1.5) File for MacPro 5,1. If you need it let me know.

Also there is a way discribed in this Forum to get nvme Support running.

Following these instructions i con not obtain the necessary "NVMe_DXE.ffs.zip" file described in this document.
If anyone has a source - that woud be highly appreciated.
Also maybe someone can enlighten. What is the difference between the following Files:
1 "NVMe_DXE.ffs.zip"
2 "Nvme.ffs.zip"
wich are mentiond in this paper.

Thanks

I know you are a newbie, but please don't post wrong info.

Be nice if there was an answer to the the conversation then, is dosdude1's instructions no good then, you don't need the nvme.ffs.zip at all, thinks like that, sure would have liked to know that

NVMe 1.3 blades have native support since MacPro5,1 EFI firmware 140.0.0.0.0, just update to 144.0.0.0.0. If you don't have a METAL supported GPU and can't borrow one, you can always workaround the firmware upgrade requirements via a BootROM reconstruction service.

Don't need anything on my 5,1, i am just wanting to get a NVME to boot on my 3,1, all as it can do is see it in the PCI slot for storage, Is Dosdude1's instructions work and you don't need the nvme, ffs.zip just the romtool and the dxeinject dosdudes1's instructions and your good, wondering about the nvme.ffs.zip being obsolete, have an answer to that i would really appreciate it, Thanks! for your time

We are talking about MacPro5,1, not MacPro3,1. For an early-2008 Mac Pro you have to inject both NVMe and APFS EFI modules. You can extract both modules from MacPro5,1 144.0.0.0.0 MP51.fd via UEFITool and use Dosdude1's DXEInject to inject the modules to the dumped BootROM image.

Btw, I don't provide any reconstruction services for MacPro3,1, too complicated since the output of the tools when reconstructing the image are invalid for a MacPro3,1 BootROM image, too time consuming to correct the problems and make it valid also too risky to have a failure of the flash memory while writing it.

MacPro3,1 BootROM's flash memory is extremely complicated to replace, expensive and there is no MATT card to fallback if anything goes wrong, so, be sure about what you are doing since any problems will require a replacement logic board or a repair that won't be cost effective.

I know i would here that, it says it is for both the 3,1 and the 5,1, i just want two simple questions, dos dosdude1's instructions work and because the nvme.ffs.zip obsolete it is not needed and The instructions work without it, if i have any problems like you say i will just install another motherboard

First thing, was handheldgames that made that google doc, not dosdude1. Second, the instructions are incomplete for a MacPro3,1 and invalid for a MacPro5,1, the doc is from 2018. Besides the injection of NVMe EFI module, you also need the APFSJumpStart one.
