I’m trying to install a bunch of Garageband loops and software instruments from the old Jam Pack CDs (circa 2004/05) onto my 2015 MacBook Pro. There’s tons of loops in these packs that you can’t get on Garageband today, unless you want to purchase them through Mainstage - but seeing I already have them I want to save the unnecessary expense. Because my MacBook doesn’t have an external drive, I’m installing via remote disc from an old MacBook (circa 2010). The problem is, the install gets 2 minutes away from completion and just stops there saying ‘writing files, 2 minutes remaining’. Is there any other way to install the old Jam Pack content, or do I need to change anything in this process? Running a MacBook Pro Retina early 2015 w Sierra 10.13.3

You could try unpacking/copying your jam packs to your current users /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/User Loops/ folder.
That's where i put all my downloaded samples and they show up in GarageBand and work fine.

Cheers

I've run into the same problem with trying to install the packs on a newer system. If you have an older system available, you can simply copy the files over to the appropriate folders (see below). If GarageBand doesn't "see" them after starting up, select the Loop Library icon, open Finder and navigate to the folders and just "select-all" and 'drag' the folders into the Loop Library; this will force a re-index. I've done this several times and it's worked perfectly. If you don't have an older system, you can follow the instructions from bulletsandbones below.

A. Unfortunately, as you have found, the installers included with the Jam Packs no longer run under Mac OS X 10.7.x (and later) because they use legacy PowerPC code, so you need to do a little manual work to install them under this version of the OS.

Once you've inserted the DVD...

open it up, if it's not already opened, and control-click on the installer. In the popUp menu that appears, choose Show Package Contents.

In the window that appears open the Contents folder.

Within the Contents folder open the Installers folder.

Here you will find some .pkg files named for the Jam Pack for which it is included. First run the file called XXX_Instruments_Tiger.pkg (where XXX is the name of the Jam Pack). Some errors will be reported, but you can safely ignore them and continue.

Once the instruments are installed you install the loops using the same procedure, launching the XXX_Loops_Tiger.pkg (where once again XXX is the name of the Jam Pack)

The Apple Loop are stored in the system Library directory /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/

Good luck and enjoy using all those loops! :) Side note, you can use the "drag and drop" method for any loops you may download from the internet; such as looperman.com, etc etc.

Thanks Wicknix, this is a great idea. My only concern is that it won't install the software instruments that come on some of the jampacks, but from memory most of the loops weren't midi loops anyway so it's probably not a big deal. Will give it a go!
[doublepost=1513729600][/doublepost]@robo456 great advice, thanks for the link with instructions - I understand now why the installer won't work, thanks for clarifying. I'll try this method, which is really the only option, and see how it goes. Much appreciated!
