Hello everyone!

First of all, I wish you a very happy new year 2025!

Now here is my goal: install Windows Tiny11 on an external SSD/NVMe from a MacBook Pro 16" (2019) Sequoia 15.2, with the bootloader allowing me to select macOS or Windows, without BootCamp.

1) I tried with Windows Install: the installation was successful, but I can't see the Windows icon in the boot screen (when the Option key is pressed).
2) I tried to install OpenCore files with OCLP 2.2.0, but no mean, probably because my mac natively supports Sequoia.
3) I disabled the SIP and installed the OpenCore files (1.0.3) in the EFI: I can't see the macOS icons or the Windows icon either.

Can anyone help me?
If the only chance to install Windows Tiny11 is with BootCamp, then I will do it.

Hi folks !
I finally succeeded in installing Windows Tiny11 on an external SSD.
1) I have used Rufus 4.6p to create the bootable Windows system with Tiny11.iso (on the Windows already installed in my cMP 5,1 with OpenCore).
2) I downloaded all the Windows drivers for my MBP 16" (2019) thanks to BootCamp Utility.
3) Installed all those drivers perfectly.
Thank :)

Hello. If you tried to install Windows using the Windows Install.App program, most likely you forgot to disable the Deactivate Windows ESP option. In any case, I am glad that you managed to install Windows.

Hi Sergey !
And thank you so much for your fantastical app "Windows Install".
I'm almost pretty sure that I have ticked the Deactivate Windows ESP. I really prefer to use your app and will retry with an other SSD or NVMe and tell you.

Oh no, no, this feature should be disabled! Activating this function is only necessary for cMP 4.1/5.1 and possibly other computers with legacy boot firmware; in other cases, “Deactivate Windows ESP” must be disabled.

I will install Windows 11 on an external NVMe Samsung 980 Pro in the forthcoming days.
I will use Windows Install with Windows ESP disabled.
I'll let you know, Sergey.

Hi !
I have a put a Samsung NVMe 980 PRO in a Ugreen 40Gbps PCIe 4.0 connected to my MacBook Pro 16" (2019) with Sequioa 15.2.

Thanks Windows Install : I have installed Windows Tiny11 on the external NVMe in 2min 27sec.

I deactivated Windows ESP and have the Windows icon on the bootscreen :

But when booting on the external Windows drive, here comes the devil blue screen :

I will also try with Rufus this evening.
Sergey, please let me know if I did something wrong.
Thanks for your help folks ! 🙏🏻

Hello. If not difficult, try to install Windows again and save the log (file -> Save log), I will see if the installation process was correct. Try Rufus is also a good idea.

Bad news :( I don't understand why .

With Windows Install :
> With Windows ESP enabled or disabled > when booting with ALT key pressed, no EFI nor Windows icon.

With Rufus :
> Ble screen (see above) : "Stop code: INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE"

I have at least an SSD Crucial With Windows that is functional With Windows 11 Pro (Tiny), created with Rufus. (see above).
I don't know why it's ok with an external SSD but not with a UGREEN 40Gbps PCIe 4.0 + Samsung NVMe 980 PRO in a 40Gbps PCIe 4.0.
May be I can clone/duplicate the SSD(with Windows) to the NVMe, but neither SuperDuper, nor Disk Utility is able to to this with NTFS formatted disk.

Any idea would be appreciated 🙏🏻

Please Sergey :

With Windows Install :
1. I will format the external NVMe in exFat and GUID.
2. How do I remove the EFI folder on the EFI section
3. I will drag a Windows 10 normal or tiny.
4. That's all ?

Yes

There are different programs, but you can first format the disk in MBR, and then again in Guid, so you will create an EFI section again.
3. I will drag a Windows 10 normal or tiny.
Better download the original version from the Microsoft website.
4. That's all ?
And don't forget the log)))

Hi !
Here is the log file with your Test version and official Windows 11 Pro french ISO.
Same crashing blue screen :)

I think I've identified the problem!

Rufus 4.6 and Windows Install do their job perfectly: they install Windows 10 and Windows 11 on an external NVMe.

The problem is the NVMe support and its connexion speed.

The installation and use are perfect when I connect:

1) ✅ an SSD in SATA<>USB to my MacBook Pro 16" (2019)

2) ✅my NVMe Samsung 980 Pro connected to my MacBook Pro 16" (2019) via ACASIS NVMe M.2 PCIe 10Gpbs USB-C

BUT THE PROBLEM APPEARS with my brand new ❌UGREEN USB4 M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure 40Gbps USB-C

Now, either I buy and try an ACASIS 40Gbps or try to install my NVMe with Windows functionnal (installed thanks to ACASIS 10Gbps) into the UGREEN 40Gbps.

Any help/idea ?🙏🏻
