Hi. You should be able to solve your problem by getting a brand new Yosemite installation CD from Amazon. Best of luck to you!

The best option is to go to eBay and search for "Yosemite usb". You will be able to buy a Yosemite full installer on a USB thumb drive. The drive will be bootable so you can start your Mac from it by inserting the thumb drive, push the Mac power button, hold the alt key as soon as you hear the start chime until you see the thumb drive icon on the screen, use the arrow key to select the thumb drive (it should already be selected), press enter, give the Mac time to startup from the USB drive, eventually the install window will appear, and Install the OS. Be patient and let the installer do its thing.

How did you format the drive? When you formatted it, did you format it as Apple Extended Format (Journalled)?

If not, then reboot holding down Command-R and reformat the drive as Apple Extended Format (Journalled), back out of Disk Utility and choose "Re-install System":
