My 2011 iMac has been at the "less than a minute" stage of Mountain Lion installation now for nearly an hour and hasn't added anything new to the installer log since keyboard layouts.

I'm worried of rebooting for fear of losing anything. Is it worth leaving it alone or is it hopeless at this stage? :(

The same happened to me with the iMac in my sig, maybe not an hour but quite a while. Stick with it for a little longer.

Ended up risking it and restarting the system, when it asked which partition to boot from, it was labelled as Mountain Lion already, so held my breath and went for it... and despite it not completing instalation it has worked fine [so far, don't want to jinx it haha].
