Installation problems

OK, so, recently I'd been having problems with my mac running a lot slower than usual, so I decided I would format the HD and reinstall everything. The way I formatted, was I loaded up from the os x 10.5.2 disk, went to disk utility, chose the HD with the 'zero all data' option, and clicked erase. it took about 45 minutes to format the 280gb disk, but now that I restarted from the disk again, and chose english, a window pops up and says "Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer" and the only options are 'OK' or 'Restart'
The disks came with the computer when I bought it in August '07.
What am I missing? In the installation logs, line 21 says 'Installation checks failed.'

Any help would be much appreciated.

Are you using the installation disc that came with your Mac? Leopard was released in October 2007 so if you bought it in August, it didn't come with 10.5.2. Do you have another OS X disc, Snow Leopard for example?

I have a macbook as well that I bought a year later, so maybe that's the disk for that?

The grey disks that come with the computer will only work on that model computer. attempting to use it on a different computer yields the message "osx cannot be installed on this computer". Macbook restore disks don't work on iMacs and vice versa.

That disc won't work because those grey discs are system specific. You need either the original discs that came with your computer or retail version

had this problem when i installed my SSD. i tried using the SL retail disc and all I got was osx cant be installed, had my wife's 2010imac disc and mine would at least boot up but wouldnt install, after frantically searching i found my original disc, which i now have framed on the wall so I don't lose it, everything installed perfectly.

You can also call Apple give them your serial # and get replacement discs, $10 I think.
