as the title infers, 3 nights ago i installed 10.4.7 on my Rev. C 12" PB and when it finished i clicked shut-down, then went to bed. yesterday morning when i woke up to start up my 12" PB again, it will never get past the light grey screen with the dark grey apple. I never get the little spinning graphic below it that (i'm assuming) indicated OS X is loading up. It just sits there frozen. I tried to boot in target mode and repair the disk with my MBP, but it tells me that it can't unmount the image to repair it. I also tried resetting the p-ram via cmd+option+p+r but to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I upgraded to Tiger when it first came out and unfortunately i can't find the install DVD, but i do have the original Panther install DVD that came with the PB, as well as the install DVDs for my PPC mac mini and my MBP. I know that when i pop in the MBP DVD, i get a kernel panic, and i'm assuming that's because that's written for intel hardware. PLEASE HELP because i have A LOT of important information on this machine and would love to continue to ues it. (BTW, i've got a lot of my online user names and passwords on a sticky note that stays open on my PB desk top. When i boot into target mode, are those temporarily saved any where so that I could open them up and retrieve that sticky?)

a little update...

I know that the HD is still ok because i can boot in safe mode.
I found the Tiger DVD and repaired the disk and the permissions... again to no avail
Any help would be apprciated.
Just a question, how can i export the actual messages stored in entourage to load them up on my MBP?

I'm fixin to get the important info from stickies and the rest... hopefully then restart to a brilliantly working PB.

and...

now for some reason it starts up fine, i guess you can just disregard this thread all together...

Okay, so I am not the only one, this happened to my PowerBook when I updated to 10.4.6. After the install, it never got past the spinning thing with the Apple logo.

BUT, I fixed it, but it required a complete format of the HD and a reinstall of Tiger, once I got that done, it installed 10.4.6 just fine.

I don't know what the deal was, but reinstalling the OS fixed it just fine.

Maybe that will work for you too, hopefully you have a way of backing up (because i did not, and lost everything)

Hope this helps.

I didn't have to do anything... i did a "safe boot" and then restarted from within that and everything works fine now.
