Installed Bootcamp - won't recognize external hard drive

I know this has been discussed before but I am completely confused. I've got some GPS maps that I want to load onto my system using the Windows side...but I want to put the maps onto my external hard drive. The hard drive has been formatted to mac....last year....

Can someone give me step by step dummie directions? Thank you.

FYI - I'm running Windows XP and Snow Leopard.

Did you install Windows XP after having installed Snow Leopard or did you do so before? Ensure that you have installed the latest Boot Camp drivers, included on the Snow Leopard disc. Previous versions of the drivers included with Tiger and Leopard did not include HFS read support.

If you can't get the drive to show up in windows, you can always just boot in SL and drag them into your windows partition, or put them on a thumb drive/ CD-R and load them into windows from there. Sorry not the best option, but it may be a solution none the less if you can't get XP to recognize your HFS drive. Definitely load the drivers from the SL disk, it's pretty impressive the hardware support Apple has included for when your running under XP.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll work with it tomorrow and see what happens. I installed Snow Leopard first and then installed Windows XP with the latest boot camp drivers. Dragging into the Windows partition is a good idea. Basically - I hate having to work with Windows but with these maps I need - unfortunately I have to. I'll let you know how it goes.

I have the same issue...

I'm also running snow leopard, and have a number of external drives connected by firewire and USB, all formatted in HFS except for one, which I'll describe below. Windows 7 only mounts that one drive even though the others are recognized as devices by the system. That drive, connected via USB, happens to have two partitions, one formatted in NTFS and the other in HFS. Windows 7 is able to mount both partitions despite one of them being HFS. Do you guys have any suggestions on how to get the OS to mount my other HFS drives?

I tried dragging and dropping the external into bootcamp and I can see it in XP but only as a file. It does not recognize it as a drive.... Any other suggestions?
