Installed the GM Candidate through the Beta Program (just signed up today) on my OS X 10.10.5 running rMBP 2012 and could not be happier (way faster UI and faster file system and overall system response).

Anyone has any idea what will happen once the final GM is out on Sep. 30th? Will it be an update through the Mac App Store or will I have to again download the full installer from "Purchased" and install on top?

If there is an updated GM build, it may become available to you, but if the current build is the final GM, then you are already using it.

Installed it too. Observations:

- it appears to be smoother but slower than PB6. That's to be expected if the animations are better quality.

- the alpha channel/masks on some items are not finished. You can see a small outline around log in screen icons and menus that needs fixing.

- Disk Utility is a little toy now.

- waiting to see if Metal will bring improvements to apps. Until then it makes no difference to my productivity over Yosemite.

What do you mean the animations are better quality?

I performed a clean install of OS X El Capitan GM yesterday on my rMBP 2014 and I installed only a few apps so far but I already noticed a few bugs regarding the functionality of the apps. Not sure if OS's fault or the apps need updates. When dragging 1Password's window through the screen gives a hell of a glitch. Adobe Application Manager is even worse than it was on Yosemite, fonts not syncing correctly, creative cloud files vanishing and then suddenly reappearing. Also, Mail.app is constantly changing layouts every time I open it. Google Chrome is opening automatically and loading gmail after every new restart. <--- That's ridiculous!

I truly hope the GM version is getting an update before release as much as the apps.

Good things I noticed: Battery improvement and faster apps loading.

Just installed it on my retina iMac, no problems whatsoever, performance is better.
