I installed Kompozer. Upon starting it the first time, it crashed my machine within a few seconds. I decided to remove it. Dragging to the trash can did not work. So I went in to command shell and did a search for "Komp*" and deleted the directories that were found using rm.

However, I still see the Kompozer icon in my launchpad, albeit superimposed with a watermarked question mark. How do I get rid of that?

Also, any recommended alternatives for a free or cheap (< $20) WSYIWYG editor that creates html?

Thanks.

control-click on the icon in the dock, under 'options' choose 'remove from dock'. the question mark is telling you the app can't be found (since you've deleted it).

This is different than the dock issue. The app is no longer in the dock, but still appears in launchpad.

Anyway, I was able to drag it to trash on a subsequent attempt. But my machine, which has never crashed in 2+ months of ownership has crashed 3 times since I installed and deleted this app. I have been sending the crash logs to Apple. Keeping my fingers crossed. Surprised that an app like Kompozer can cause so much instability.

Thanks. I did load EasyFind from the App Store. I couldn't find anything else with kompozer in it. Also since I was able to delete the icon from Launchpad, my computer has been stable--no crash.

Unfortunately, I did experience one more crash. If this continues, I will probably have to restore as a new system and reload everything.

Unfortunately it looks like I may have to go the route of restoring my machine from scratch. Despite no signs of Kompozer files anywhere on my system, I'm still experiencing crashes after every hour or so of use.

Testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or if it's your User's folder that contains the problem. It would be quicker to move to a new User than nuke your current setup.

CREATE A NEW USER

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Users & Groups.
Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching.
You can skip logging in with an Apple ID unless you need to test iCloud apps. Hit continue then skip.

Only default Apple apps will be in the Dock in the new User. Go to Applications to open other apps you might want to test.

Do you still see the issue?

If yes, then the problem is with your base files.
If no, then the problem is in your User's folder.

Download EtreCheck. You can post its report here, so we have a better idea of your hardware and software setup so we can better help.

Thanks for the suggestion. Before seeing a crash I also tend to see "Aw Snap" errors on active pages in Chrome.

I am going to wait for it to crash one more time (I don't think I will be disappointed). Then I will try to new user suggestion.

Would the crash log be of any help?
[doublepost=1489208475][/doublepost]Here is the result of EtreCheck. I don't see anything noteworthy other than a log of all the panics the machine has experienced.

Are you getting Panic attacks? If yes, this could be a hardware issue. If it's hardware related, no software fix will help.

Since Chrome is giving you lots of crashes, try running with a new Chrome folder. You can sync Chrome if you sign in.
After syncing, quit Chrome, delete the chrome folder in User's Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome folder. Open Chrome and let it sync. Does this help?

You can try running the latest combo updater over your install but you might need to run the full Sierra installer over your install.

Download macOS Sierra 10.12.3 Combo Update
https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1905

Under Purchases tab in App Store, find Sierra. Select to download. It will ask if you really want to download, hit continue to download.

The not loaded items are usually a result of not enough memory but I see nothing that indicates you have low memory. The combo updater or the full installer might help with these files.

I'm not sure if what the machine was experiencing was a panic or something else.

I ended up calling Apple support. They had me reset the SMC and scheduled me for a followup this morning. Since the SMC reset, there have been no crashes. I was still experiencing some instability with chrome going "Aw Snap" way too much on websites where I normally never have any problems. This morning they had me clear the caches under library and also remove chrome files. Then uninstall and reinstall chrome. The system now feels stable.

The rep said if I still experience instability with Chrome or system crashes, then the next step would be to restore the OS.

But the results so far are quite encouraging.

I spoke too fast. I started seeing "aw snap" again in chrome and also safari crashing. Called again and they suggested reinstalling the OS.

I decided to just to a clean wipe and then reinstall. After the reinstall, installing apps from the AppStore kept failing. Eventually the machine locked up while I was on call with a supervisor with my screen shared. This was a clean install with chrome loaded but no other apps/data. He said this kind of stuff happens when the hard drive fails.

I'm scheduled to take it in this Tuesday at 6 pm.

Turns out it is a RAM issue. They are replacing the system board. Should be back in 3-5 days. Tech said it's the first one they've seen with RAM failure.
