Installed then deleted Bootcamp/XP...Now MBP boots slow??

Hopefully one of you have a solution to this irritating problem. I installed Bootcamp/XP and then deleted it. Since then, My MBP, which always booted really quickly, "pauses" before it boots. I would usually get the Apple Logo then blue screen and I was up and running. Now, I get a blank gray screen for 10 or so seconds and then it starts up. Anybody have a fix? Or am I the only one that this has happened to?

Have you checked the hard drive using Disk Utility? If not, try that and repair the disk to see if that helps. If it won't let you do it in Mac OS X, try booting from the restore disks and using that disk utility.

THANK YOU. I notice the exact same problem every time I turn on my MBP, but by the time the computer is useable, I forget about it. But now you reminded me. I think I fixed it, at least for my computer.

I went in to System Preferences, to the Startup Disk panel. Where you choose the system to start up with, OS X was listed along with Network Setup, but neither were "selected." So I clicked, then double clicked, then clicked a few more times (to make sure! ) the OS X icon, and then clicked the Restart button.

The computer restarted, but hung at the all gray (before Apple logo) screen and the fans slowly powered on full speed. It freaked me out so I turned it off and then turned it on again. This time, it went right to the Apple logo with only one or two seconds at the all-gray screen.

Ever since then, it seems to boot quickly like it used to.

Fantastic fix. After using bootcamp and installing windows about 2 weeks ago I removed it last night (I thought Id use windows all the time.. but it was just wasting space). I noticed last night and this morning that it was booting really slow. This thread was meant to be!

Reselcting the startup disk fixed all my startup speed issues! Thanks!
