Installer Application on jailbroken 1.1.2 iPhone?

OK, I really need some help but I think I'll need to explain everything first. Here goes..

My uncle gave me an iPhone he bought off eBay. He didn't know much about it but he knew it had been jailbroken and warned me never to update the firmware or I would render it completely useless. It had two icons on the main screen, one called installer and one called SSH. After doing some internet research I found out that these are needed if I want to put cool thrid party apps on my iPhone and was quite pleased. It seemed everything had been done for me.

I used the installer to add several applications and games and was quite pleased thinking I had everything sorted out. However now I have a problem and it's quite stupid really. Whilst browsing through applications I could download I came across one called 'Categories'. It claimed to be able to organis the random mess of icons on the main screen and allow you to create folders and organise things. It was working fine and I had put all my apps into and Applocations folder, including the SSH and installer icons.

I noticed that a few new icons were appearing, ones that had never been there before and didn't actually do much. e.g 'DemoApp' and 'Field Test'. I assume that they were on the phone all along but hidden and this categories app had shown them. I wanted to get rid of them but couldn't so went to uninstall the categories app. It just seemed like more trouble than it was worth. Before uninstalling it though I decided to go in and get rid of all the folders I'd made incase things were mucked up. I did so and pressed the menu button.

But all the apps that had previously been in folders had disappeared from my menu screen!! I am assuming that they are still on my iPhone but without their ison's I have no idea how to access them!! And because I stupidly put the intaller icon in a folder that one has dissappeared too and I can't uninstall the icon program or get any new ones!!!

What can I do? I have tried to re-install the installer using my computer but I can't get it to work. I have thought about restoring it's factory settings on itunes but am afraid it will become useless as this is irreversable!

I am paniking that it cannot be fixed and hope that someone can help me out here. I would really appreaciate it.

it says o2. Apparently u hav 2 use o2 with iPhones or they won't work. My sim card is tesco though, it works because tesco work alongside with o2.
 
Ok, so its not unlocked (the abilty to change carriers).

The only way I think you are going to recover is restore in iTunes. Then jailbreak again and download boss prefs app. You can then unhide everything.

I really dislike categories for this reason. I haven't used it since I had the same problem.
 
thanks a lot. I really appreaciate the help. One last question though, can I really be sure restoring it will not render it useless? My warranty must already be void and I really can't afford to lose my phone.

Restoring wont render it useless. Its restores it back to factory settings. As long as you have a legal carrier and contract (not unlocked) everything should be fine.
