Hi,
I'm using my 2012 i5 mini as HTPC. It has 4gb of RAM and the original 500gb HDD in it. I want to install an MX100 SSD as my main system drive but I also want to install an additional storage disk.

At first I want to swap the original 500gb disk so its the storage disk as a temp solution until I can afford the 2TB Samsung Spinpoint.

With this in mind I of course want to install the storage disk on the lower bay (the one accessible without pulling out the entire motherboard completely) so it can be easily replaced in the future. Is their any software limitations to such a placement as for which one is the main drive etc.

In the end I don't want a fusion drive. I want the SSD and the storage disk to be two separated drives in the finder.

Let me know your thoughts on this?

Careful, when you open Disk Utility on that machine, it'll see there's an SSD and a hard drive, and it'll try to create a fusion drive. Just pay attention to the prompts if you want to keep them separate.

Doug: Thanks for the heads-up. So when I've installed the second drive I need to open disk utility before booting into OSX?
