Hello All,

I just bought a second hand 8 core Mac Pro 3.1 and trying to install a Pioneer Blu Ray Drive (Model No BDR-208EBK) with no great success. I have installed the drive in the second bay and connected the drive to hidden sata connector below the fan. When I try to access the drive I get a Mac error drive not supported. I really don't what to do. Can anyone please help me!

Thanks in advance,
Merv Stent

I don't have an MP 3,1 so can't really help, but if you have connected both data and power cables correctly, there is no reason that it won't work as people have done this with MP3,1 in this thread. Have you tried the BD drive elsewhere and what version of OS X are you running? You could try the PRAM reset as I read somewhere or do a Google search on "disc drive not supported mac", and see if they apply to your case.

Are you not able to access any disc in the drive or the drive itself?

I had trouble running a Pioneer SATA DVD burner on my ODD ports on my 1,1. It only worked part of the time.

Make sure your SATA cables are good, maybe try and plug it into one of the four Hard drive SATA ports to see if that's the problem.

Yes I am having the same problem, it works for the first five minutes, after turning on the computer, and then after 5 minutes it comes up with the error! I will try your suggestion!

I have not done this myself (yet), but I've looked into it, and I could be wrong here, but since OSX doesn't support Blu-ray, in addition to an internal or external BD drive, I believe you need Blu-ray software. Check out these links:

Let us know how this works out.

No go, only works for the first five minutes, and then get this error

The disc can’t be used because the disc drive is not supported (error code 0x80020025).

IF anyone can help me, I would really appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Hello All,

After playing around with my Mac Pro, I have figured out the problem. I have to set the hard drives not to fall asleep in the Energy Saver! I hope
this helps!

Thanks in advance,
