ok, so this is my first time putting in a new drive, so i need some help. i bought a 250gb seagate drive, and when i go to install osx, the drive is not recognized. i installed it right out of the box, didn't do anything. What should i do/how did i screw up?

thanks,
bored

If you bought it off OWC, they have a troubleshooter for this problem, i think.

Just go to the hard drive troubleshooting

You probably didn't try to use Disk Utility to format it. On the top of your screen choose the Utilities menu item and then choose Disk Utility. Does the drive show up there?

first off it is a western digital not a seagate, and no i have not tried disk utility, thanks.

p.s. hey mr. macbook, i'm flipping out and you rick roll me you ass!

EDIT: started with disk utility, but since i'm a noob, what do i do, format it into a mac os extended?

EDIT 2: I LOVE YOU GUYS, IT WORKED!!!! thank you so much pmartin

Yeah, that'll be why the drive isn't "recognized". You have to format it first.
