I have the 10.4 discs here, but they are on dvd. I was trying to install them on my ibook g3 by doing a network startup, but it's just giving me the flashing box at startup... How can I change my startup disk back to the original 10.3?

Secondly, what would you all advise for getting 10.4 on my ibook g3 that doesn't read dvds? Any good ideas out there besides paying 10 bucks and having apple send me the cds?

well my computer randomly just stopped flashing the network symbol and booted up off the OS installed on there currently. Any ideas on how to get 10.4 on there though?

you could always take the harddrive out and install it using another computer that does have a dvd drive. you may need to set some openfirmware variables on your laptop afterwards, or not.

I see your iBook has a firewire port. If it does and you have access to another mac with a dvd drive you can install it via firewire. I just did this on an iMac g4 and it worked perfectly. Just boot the iBook holding down the T button, and it will show up as a hard drive when you do the install on the mac with the dvd drive.
