I do not know if anyone else discovered this, but I found you can import un-encrypted epub books in to the iPad via iTunes 'Add File to Library' they show up in the 'Books' section, previously 'Audiobooks'. Then just drag and drop to your iPad and they will appear on your iBook shelf.

I only had two epub books so far that would not transfer over, iTunes said the files were unreadable. So I do not know if it was the formating.

But the epub ebooks I have gotten from Baen, and the un-encrypted epub ebooks I have gotten Fictionwise have transfered over without any problems.

There are three topics running on this subject that I am aware of. You might be interested in the one where people reported that cover art is not importing correctly. I haven't had any issues.

Thanks, I am not all that worried about the cover art. But I will keep an eye on the other threads, perhaps someone will figure out why some un-encrypted epubs will not import and others will. Might be the conversion process or some unexpected markups from certain programs.
