Installing ios 5 on multiple devices

I might get laughed at for asking this but my family has multiple ios devices. 4 ipod touches (3rd and 4th gen), 2 iphones (4) and an ipad2. Being relatively new to the mac world, I'm wondering - do I need to download the ios5 update for each device (7 devices x 700 megs each) or is there a way for me to download and save the file so I can just swap each device onto itunes as they finish?

the file is different for every type/model of device. But if you already have say the iphone 4 one downloaded, it shouldn't have to download again for that one.
