Noob question here.. I downloaded the 4.0 software from the Apple dev site. How do I get it installed on my phone? I downloaded the proper version for my device (3gs).

Thanks a ton!

Short Answer

Connect to ITunes as usual ... then on the iphone page in itunes (hold option + click "restore") then just choose the file.

also..

btw, here are a few hints based on the troubles i had...

1. do a backup before u install the new OS and then copy the backup folder to another location. (~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup)

2. Write down your UDID number (from iphone screen in itunes - click the line that says "Serial Number". It will be right above where it shows your phone number)

3. Register your phone as a dev device in the ADC portal, otherwise it wont reactivate when your now OS boots.

4. Uncheck "Open ITues when this IPhone is connected" on the iphone screen in itunes - this way you can restore your old backup before itunes tries to overwrite your old backup with a new one.

Alternatively, I just did an option click on "Check for Updates" and updated straight to 4.0. I backed up first anyway, but it worked fine for me (at least it's working so far!)

Where do I enter my UDID?

I started installing 4.0 on my iPhone & then it went into recovery mode because I never entered my UDID.. because I have no clue where to enter it!!

AHHH
