most software you can just download, but if you want you could copy over the dmg file using a drive or over the network. if you need to install from a disc use Remote Disc. also if you need to reinstall OS X or do diagnostics Apple includes a restore USB drive.

Few responded because very few things must be installed by CD. If the DMG is not available online you can use Remote Disc to read the drive of another computer on the network. I bet a Genius would do it for you.

true but say i buy something and want the dmg to store. I guess that was my real question. on a disc is the dmg accessible? most of the things i "used to install when i had a superdrive" i always seen a install package and not the dmg. but also thanx for the comment this is a great site when people like you and Richthomas lend help.

I was just wondering about external CD drives, there is the regular apple one, but i think i read somewhere about using a mac mini as the superdrive?

thanks heaps! although with an entire operating system on a USB, i wonder how long it will be until everything is installed by download and USB
