Installing Vista with Parallels

Is it possible to install Vista to my Boot Camp partition using Parallels? I want to be able to continue using my computer while installing Vista.

I know it's probably able to install OK, but will the drivers become messed up or something? I still want to be able to boot up in Boot Camp and in Parallels.

Also, should I activate Vista while in Parallels or should I restart using Boot Camp in order to activate?

Not yet, Parallels doesn't support it yet. However you might get lucky... but i wouldn't try it.

Does anyone know the ACTUAL minimum requirement for hard disk space? Obviously I don't have 15 GB of space for Vista; the entire partition is only 10 GB (out of the 60 GB hard drive that came with my MacBook).

The MS EULA for Vista doesn't allow you to run it in a virtualized environment (Parallels), unless it is one of the two most expensive versions (enterprise and extreme?). In addition, even if you have one of those versions, you can't play media files due to MS DRM issues. So, why bother?

I volunteer at a local elementary school, and they just received 10 computers with Vista. So I'm getting Vista mostly to help the school. As for Vista not being allowed to run in Parallels, I'm not trying to run it in Parallels. I want to use it with Boot Camp. I want to install it using Parallels.

As for media files not playing, I BELIEVE that's just a myth. Besides, if I really wanted to watch something I would use Quicktime and/or iTunes in Mac OS X. Or VLC.

You need more than 10GB to have enough space for anything other than Vista itself. I allocated 16GB. You'll need to free up space.

Ok, I just installed Vista Home Basic in a virtual machine in Parallels (yes, it's illegal, but I'll be deleting it soon anyway). The disk image is now 6.89 GB.

My Ultimate install on BootCamp came up as around 10.4GB out of my allocated 20.4GB. I think around 2GB of that 10.4GB was a pagefile though.

I guess the different versions use different amounts of HD space.

Strange that there is such a big difference, but as the next poster said mine has a 2GB page file.

Oh and i have to add the obligatory...

Glad to hear it works. I plan on going this route, but I feared that parallels would restrict it. The EULA is BS anyways. Once parallels supports Vista running virtually from the bootcamp installation, I will never be using the Vista image on more than one machine -or- more than one user at a time.

I can understand not allowing the virtual image to be moved around from machine, but on a single machine, I can't identify any moral issues. MS is still getting my money, and I will likely only use the darn thing once a month. If I buy vista, it will only to be used in this manner. If paralles locks it down, then I won't buy either. My 2cents.
