Hello,

I am trying to install Windows 7 via boot camp on OS X El Capitan 10.11.6. Every time I run Boot Camp, I get to the step where it searches for and downloads Windows 7 updates. Then, it says "The installer disc could not be found."

I’ve got a .ISO image from Microsoft that I’ve put onto a USB drive, and I’ve also burned the .ISO to a disk, and Boot Camp still won’t find it there.

I’ve also read that turning the .ISO to .CDR helps, but I’ve tried that via USB and disc and haven’t had any luck with that method, either.

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011)

OS OS X El Capitan 10.11.6

Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB 1 TB SSD 16 GB RAM

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Soo,why use the long obsolete, and completely failed windows 7? I installed win XP with bootcamp withouth any problem at all, works fine, and it can even find the old external CD rom player.

The problem is your 2011 MacBook Pro has an optical drive and the Boot Camp Windows installer expects to see Windows 7 there not on a USB flash drive. There are ways to install Windows 7 on your machine using a flash drive. Someone else can chime in and direct you to a link which shows how.

Hey chscag,

Thanks for your response. Per my initial post, I've also tried burning the .ISO to disk so it can be read via my optical drive, but I got the same error message.

Windows 7 is a solid OS. I'm getting a kick out of you calling it "long obsolete" and mentioning in the same breath you're running Windows XP!

Regardless of my reason for choosing Windows 7, I want to do it, and would appreciate if someone could help me out without taunting and chastising me for inane reasons. :)

Thanks!

Do you have to do boot camp? I have never used boot camp...only virtual machine either Parallels or VirtualBox...never liked the idea of mixing EFI with MBR partition.
