installing Windows 7 w/ bootcamp

I just bought an investment software that only runs on Windows. So I bought Windows 7 to install on my Mac. In trying to partition the disk with bootcamp it tells me there are some files that are unmoveable and that I need to back up the disk, reformat the drive, and then restore from the backup. Then try to partition it again.

Well, in trying to use disk utility to reformat the option of formating is grayed out. It only lets me erase the unused space on the disk.

Is there some security set to allow me to do this, or do I really even need to do this?

You can't erase your hard drive if you are booted from it. You'll have to boot from the OS install disk. Also, when erasing the drive, you may as well partition it as you intend.

And remember: this wipes all of your data.

You could always try using virtualization software like VMWare Fusion or Parallels? It might work fine and save you some trouble. I think both will allow you to download a copy to try for 30 days.

Or google the investment program and VMWare and Parallels. Surely someone out there has tried it.
