I'm new to macs and I'm installing 64 bit XP on my MBP. I already partitioned my hdd with boot camp assistant and I'm setting up the install on my partition. I have a few options:

Format the partition using the NTFS file system (quick)
Format the partition using the NTFS file system
Convert the parition to NTFS
Leave the current file system intact (no changes)

Just wondering what I should choose.

Remove the disc and install a real 64-bit OS like Windows 7 or Vista.

Really though, the non-quick option checks the disc for bad sectors, etc. and takes a while longer. The quick format option just erases the NTFS table to appear as if there is no files on the disc (although the data is actually still there, but the OS will ignore this).

If it's an old drive that could potentially be fragmented, doing a full format might be a good idea.

It's always a good idea to not do a quick NTFS install. Sometimes, Windows can produce a weird error and might not properly install.

Also, agreed, Vista x64 or Windows 7 x64 is a better choice.

Thanks for the replies guys. I went ahead and did quick install. I'm only doing this boot camp partition for games. Last time I asked if 64 bit XP was a good a good idea I got positive responses. Would Windows 7 64 bit work well for gaming?

Also how do I go about installing the apple drivers in XP? I've read I need to install drivers after installing the windows OS partition.

Hahaha. I guess I got some bad information from these boards.

It's all good. It's just XP64 came too late in the game and developers were already working towards Vista64 both driver/application wise during that time.

The general rule of thumb is for 32-bit = XP. For 64-bit = Vista. When Windows 7 is released though the whole game will change and it'll most likely be Windows 7 for both.
