Hi all
So i was so excited about the new OS that i decided to install Yosimity beta on my new iMac 2014 and try to be part of the 'community' and contribute to the beta program. This was my first attempt at such a thing.

What a mistake it was. Its HORRIBLE< so many bugs, the mac is running like a 1998 Pentium 1 or something crappy like that its HORRIBLE.

So i have taken a backup of my files and i want to completely format my drive and reinstall a fresh copy of Mavericks. What is the best way to do this?
Seeing as the iMac doesnt have a CD Drive and i dont have another CD drive to share, i have large USB sticks so i guess that will work. I have downloaded Mavericks off App store and am ready to format.. But how? Any tips would be much appreciated

Many thanks and have a nice day

There's a reason why you're advised to never install beta software on your primary Mac.

Use DiskMaker X to create a bootable USB out of the Mavericks installer app you downloaded.

No offence, but if you do not know how to reinstall Osx, a beta OS is not really for you.

Ye i just moved over from Windows. I thought since its being released in the next couple of months most of the bugs will probably be sorted already and it would be usable, i guess i was wrong.

Thanks a lot for your concern though. Ill keep your useful advice in mind for the next time i switch to a new OS and they release a new beta they ask people to test out.

Hold command-option-r (all three keys at once) when you boot. You will be asked to pick your wifi and login then you will see a spinning globe while the recovery utility downloads. Then you will see this screen.

From there launch Disk Utility and select the drive brand name at the very top of the left column and then go to the erase tab. Then select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) from the drop down and apply the change.

Now quit Disk Utility and click Reinstall OS X and wait while the 5GB OS downloads and installs.

keep this in mind too from the Apple site" We recommend installing OS X Yosemite Beta on a secondary Mac, since it may contain errors or inaccuracies."

Beta OSes are not quite like game betas have become where they're a nearly finished and polished preview basically while an OS in beta state will not be a finished product and will probably be lacking drive support if it requires 3rd party drivers.

Well it is a beta and in a sense its expected to have bugs. Its a product not ready for prime time. Apple hands out the beta for developers to find bugs and test their own apps. They opened up the beta program to consumers, but the risk is the same. Its not ready for general consumption and apple even states this.

If you did a Time Machine back up of your hard drive before you installed Yosemite, then simply open up Time Machine, do the Star Trek thing back to a time before Yosemite and restore your machine back to Mavericks.

I really am confused by some that are having issues while others like me have had hardly none. Is it because of some hardware issue, software issue, or perhaps the download did not go well, or is it "PILOT ERROR" (You) that is making some mistake. Its interesting to read these posts when I am really liking Yosemite Public Beta 2.

I would do a clean install and not put anything on the system and play with it for awhile. Having some programs that are not coded for this beta might be a reason as well.
