Instant Hotspot Help
Hey, fellas. I have a quick question that I can’t get the answer from Google. I’m trying to have my instant hotspot from my iPhone work with my M1 MacBook Air. I can see it and connect to it by clicking on the Wi-Fi icon. However, it never automatically connects when I wake it up from sleep. I understand there are some power saving things that the hotspot on the iPhone will do, but I remember my iPad always connecting automatically to the hotspot.
Can the MacBook connect automatically to the iPhone hotspot? Or do I have to manually connect to it every time I wake it up.

What’s thanks if everybody knows the answer.

Hiya,

I have exactly the same issue, and it’s been going on for ages.

If anyone’s got a solution to this it will be awesome to know!

For my setup, I’m on the M1 Mba, latest version of Big Sur, and the phone is a iPhone SE 2020

Many thanks
Martin

So I kept digging, and I found a post on this forum that mentions turning off 5G auto and then turning it back on in cellular setting for the iPhone. I also deleted all of the saved wifi names in the network settings on both devices. I think that worked. My iPhone's hotspot is now saved and I can click the auto connect button in the network settings. It's not "instant" but it does eventually connect. However, I am home and I will need to check this in the field when I am away from my home wifi network. Maybe it will work for you.

Well, I took the MacBook to work and it couldn't auto connect to my hotspot. Very frustrating...

Does anyone NOT have this issue and it works automatically?
