Hello I'm been trying to connect my new rMBP to the internet using Instant Hotspot in iOS 8 with my iPhone 6 Plus 64GB. However, it keeps saying my iPhone isn't in range of my mac, using the old method to connect works though. Any suggestions??

Have you connected it via the old method first?
Is keychain on on both devices?
Is Bluetooth set to on on both devices?

The iCloud keychain is on on both devices. I even resetted the keychain to see if it's the problem. By the way I've connected via personal hotspot using the old method via USB, Bluetooth, and Wifi and it worked like a charm. Ironically, instant hotspot works perfectly with my Macbook Air 2013 with no problem.

I have the same problem with my new MacBook. I had another problem with sms texts not showing up so I made a genius appt. I told the "genius" about the instant hotspot and he told me it was working fine, that they showed up as instant hotspots under Mavericks and not Yosemite and you had to have personal hotspot turned on. I argued with him and he proceeded to tell me he's been an apple tech for 7 years blah blah. Arrogant SOB. I tried to find some online documentation to prove him wrong but I could only find a 9to5Mac article and he discounted its since "it's not an Apple site".

Hello there I called apple support and they told me to reset iCloud on my Mac and iPhone. This solved my problem hopefully it will solve yours too!

I've done all that and more and it works occasionally. I find that it works better when you have no other networks available.

He was wrong. Instant Hotspot on your iPhone needs to be in the "off" position. When you connect your MBP to your iPhone, Instant Hotspot on your phone will be toggled from "off" to "on."

Sorry to hijack this thread but hopefully one of you contributing could help me.

I don't have connectivity issues, mine are throughput / performance related where internet speeds are basically so slow it is unusable when tethered, check my iPhone and speed is flying, on the Mac pages just won't load or take forever

Any idea's?
