At the moment I'm using IMO a messaging app but I'm wondering if its more secure to use official apps and if doing so uses less or more battery. Course I could try but that wouldn't answer my security question.

It's less secure.

IMO, BeeJive, whoever is taking the username/password you give them and logging you in. You have to trust their privacy policy and ethics.

I suspect battery life would be negligible between them.

IMO also has the option to link accounts. They say the passwords are then encypted. Do you think this would be accesable to them or unrecovable in some program they use?

I'm not familiar in the context of IMO what 'link accounts' exactly means.

IMO is a third party, at some stage along the pipeline, whether they encrypt the data they store for you or not, they have to take the login credentials you give to them, and provide them to the actual service AIM/MSN etc to log you in to the service.

The only exception to this are services that use OAuth. It's an option for some google and facebook logins. But I haven't heard of such with MSN/AIM. And I wouldn't bet on IMO supporting the method.

Link accounts means you have say msn, google talk, Skype, yahoo, another msn, AIM, and instead of putting in each pass word for each account you link them. Then when you put in one password they all sign in. They say the passwords are encypted when you choose link.

Encrypted in your device (but I doubt there is a way to prove this), but the actual password has to be handled by the application unencrypted. First when you key it in, and second when it sends it off to the service to log you in.

Thanks. Probably save battery and be more secure if I just put as a global message in IM clients - iMessage or FaceTime me instead. Or something like that.
