Hello!
Im having major problems with a PowerBook G4 running Mac OS 10.2.7. When ever I try to log into the operating system it loads everything up and then automatically logs the user out again. The entire process from Log-In-Screen to Desktop and back to Log-In-Screen takes about 4 seconds!
Needs less to say this isnt really long enough to determine anything; however using the First Aid Utilities on the Mac OS X installation disk I have managed to repeatedly verify that everything I can check is healthy. I have tried draining the battery in an attempt to clear the Power dependant memory, but to no avail. I have also tried to re-build the system using the Archive User/Network Data option but this has had no effect on the problem. I cant wipe the HDD because there is critical data on there I need to recover. Also I cant log in as another user to recover said data, or to determine if the problem is restricted to the users account because the muppet who owns the computer only has one user account and I cant create another in the less than 4 seconds the machine is useable for.
Does anyone out there have any idea whats causing this problem and how I can fix it? Thanks in advance,
Jezhead
PS: The PowerBook is completely stand-alone and has never been exposed to the web in its three years of ownership from new. There are no external devices currently connected to the Mac, and all external devices that have come in contact are Mac approved.
