Integrated Intel GPUs in next iMac range?

Nothing confirmed of course and I'm just idly speculating, but anyone a bit concerned that this is a move that Apple may take?

I know it's a move they're probably taking with the MacBook Pro range - would they do the same with their desktops?

So close to buying a 21.5" iMac with the i5 option right now but am going to wait. But I don't want that wait to end up with a potential graphics downgrade.

Why would they? None of the iMacs have integrated GPUs any more, I doubt Apple will step backwards...

The rumour is they are going to use the Intel graphics in the MacBook and 13" MacBook Pro.

It's only because there isn't enough space for a discrete graphics card in these models and they want to use the latest Intel processors. There's plenty of space in the iMac so I wouldn't worry about it.

Nothing to worry about as far as the iMacs go. I'm a nVidia fan myself and used them on all of my previous custom builds so I'm sad to hear they may be a switch with the MBPs. But if that's what it takes to upgrade the CPU then I'll take it!

I'm actually looking to purchase an Imac next year so gaming graphics will be important to me. Intel has a history of less than adequate GPU performance.

Intel's graphics are already in the iMacs, they are just disabled. The only machines that will receive Intel's Sandy Bridge graphics primary are those with a 320M and even that's questionable for all machines. If Apple removes the optical drive from the 13" MBP and MacBook then they could have the room to put in discrete graphics. The only machine that will likely get Sandy Bridge graphics as its primary is the MacBook Air.

The only reason for Apple to use Sandy Bridge's graphics are when they are low on space and can't fit a discrete GPU on the logic board. Absolutely no one should think that Apple will use Sandy Bridge graphics in the iMac as a primary.
