Are all of the Core 2 Duo chips interchangable with the current Core Duo chips in the iMac? I know that Merom is compatable, what about Conroe and Woodcrest?

If they are, i might get an iMac instead of a 20" ACD :D

Conroe and Woodcrest use a different socket compared to the Yonah and Merom, so no dice.

hardware samples have been compatible (merom), but we're yet to see if production chips (ie, you can actually buy it) will work. I wouldn't assume you can't, but hope for the best.

What tools would I need to open my Intel iMac if I should ever feel the need to upgrade it to the 64-bit Merom?
