Hi.

I'm going to get a MBP except that I know I don't need it now. I'm excited about all the rumors (some true and some still rumors) about the MBP's future (e.g. Leopard, LED screens, blu-ray, and of course, the new Pentium chips).

My question is about the future Pentium chips. The current Core2Duo chips run at 65-nm. At this spec, people have complained about it being too hot to put on your lap.

Intel has future chips coming out where they will run at 45- and eventually 32-nm. I think I read somewhere that it basically means that computers will have the ability to store more ram and run cooler in addition to being obviously faster.

Since I'm not a tech expert and see 65-, 45-, and 32-nm as arbitrary numbers, does anyone know if the future MBPs will be cool enough to be an actual "lap" top or will it be still too hot?

define future.

if you mean many many years down the road, sure that's a big possiblity.

but if you mean the very next revision, no, i doubt it'd be too much cooler than the current c2d mbps

The current MBPs are cool enough to use on your lap. As long as you're not trying to run Maya or play a game, you'll be fine.

The die shrinks (45nm, etc...) will basically make the processor run cooler at the same speed, or faster at the same temperature. It has nothing to do with RAM. As I said before, the current MBP is fine for casual use on your lap, and don't wait for LED screens or Blu-Ray... they're not even close to being ready for laptops (other than those 2 or 3 inch thick monsters).
