Hey. Does anyone know if there is a black Core Solo chip image out there? I swear Apple had one on their site maybe a week ago. An exact copy of this but in black....

I am trying to make it my HDD icon and because I have a white desktop I need a black icon.

Thanks

I'm an ignorant Linux/Windows user, so How do I change my Hard disk icon?

Find an icon you like. Get info (command - I) on that icon and press tab so the icon in the Get Info window is hilighted in blue. Press command - c to copy. Then just get info on your HD, press tab so that it's highlighted in blue and press command - v to paste.

Edit: There's also another way to do it manually. It involves getting into system files, but if you do it this way, it will change the default image for all HDs. The folder is System/Library/Extensions/. Find IOStorageFamily.kext, right click, and select show package contents. Once inside, navigate into "contents", and into "resources". You'll find the icon files for removable, internal, and external drives. They're in the .icns format which is the format that every icon in OSX is in. By creating your own .icns files and replacing the originals, you can change the default icon for just about anything. Be sure to use the exact same name if you want them to be recognized. There are many other places besides this one to replace .icns files. Application icons are within their own .app packages, and System/Library/CoreServices/Coretypes.bundle contains lots of stuff, including the default folder icon, trash icon, network icon, applications folder, etc. As a tip to locate the rest of the icons, go into terminal and type in "locate .icns" (without the quotes).

have fun, just make sure to back up originals  :D

You can ask a photoshop master to cnange the black duo or the white dolo icon into a black solo, but I would just use the Black Duo. It looks more impressive with Duo.:D

Only problem is my wallpaper is technically "grey" and now the core solo has a big ugly white line around it. Back to Photoshop! Anyone know how to make the icon larger? I mean it is pretty tiny... can't even read it says solo.

Damn for some reason I'm thinking that black image would make a great case badge for the intel core logo ;) as long as it had a shiny jel over the paper of corse. LOL I'm still used to pcs all having cpu badges on the case but not for long :D

Step 1: Select the desktop.

Step 2: Press the keyboard shortcut Command+J (command is the Apple key).

(Here the menu that comes up...)

Step 3: Drag the "Icon size" slider to the right to make your icons bigger and to the left to make them smaller.

I recommend dragging the slider directly over one of the markers for the best looking icons. If you don't do this then the icons can look distorted. Mac icons are great because they can be as big as 128X128 pixels.
