Intel does the Mac Mini

Somehow I don't think Apple is known for selling computer parts that the user assembles. Actually, Apple seems to be known for the opposite: selling computers that have a single cable and can't be opened. They're completely different products, targeted at different people.

In other news: Toyota makes fun of Ford dealership for not stocking Prius'.

And to complete your analogy - Ford points to their speedily selling Focus which is aimed at people who want to drive a car that doesn't look like a poorly made children's toy.
 
So, according to the review, once built up to a working computer, the price comes in at almost exactly $600.
Price of base MacMini = $600.
And the specs of the mini are for the most part at least as good.

Where are those bafoons that proclaim Macs are nothing but overpriced PC's again? ;)

Or alternatively, maybe the Intel is overpriced too.

i hate those people macs are only a a tad bit more than pc's
 
The Mac Minis are currently the better deal. The advantage of the NUC is that it is designed to be the basis for a user built Mini computer. The NUCs will significantly drop in price in the future as Intel ramps up production. Mini systems are the future of computing. Full sized desk tops are giving way to Mini computers of all types.

Apple may not know they have been sitting on the gold mine of the future. What Apple should do is plan to make it's Mini line premium compared to whatever any other company does with much more powerful discrete graphics options and more models in different price ranges. They may be competing against their own line of Macbooks and iMacs but their own model lined will be replaced with someone's Mini systems of some type anyway.

What's the point of an iMac with built in everything when you can attach a Mini computer to the back of the monitor? Future upgrading of the entire computer means you don't have to replace the monitor. The Mini size means added flexibility whether it be used in a home media environment, a powerful work machine or as a space saving server or a desktop. Apple better be making the next generation of Minis as good as they can because here comes the outside competition and they will be going to compete against the entire Apple OS X non-mobile line of computers. With the iPhone getting heat from Samsung and other smart phone manufacturers and the Macbook line feeling pressure from smaller and cheaper mobile alternatives Apple might have to turn the Mac Mini into a more high profile product line in the future.

Not that there is much point, when a base Macmini is also $600, but i've read the NUC does make for a decent Hackintosh..
i5 version of the NUC on the way too.

I kinda like them, but again, they don't exactly compare well against a Macmini. So not much point to it for most of us here I would think.

Here comes the "other" competition in the future battle of the Minis. This is what Apple, Intel and Microsoft should really fear...

Wow, the MacMini is insanelly more powerufull for basically the same price, and on a better looking form factor
