Intel Duo Mini Fan Problem

I just traded up a G4 mini for a core duo mini, and I must say i'm not too impressed yet. Intel is clearly not as stable yet, its not really much faster, and the fan NEVER STOPS! plus it's significantly louder than the fan in my G4. is this just the standard, or is there a problem? Any advice is appreciated.

Sometimes the fan controler cable gets disconected during a memory upgrade and the fan runs much as you have described it.

What are you running on the Intel Mini? If you're running apps under Rosetta or just doing email and browsing then it probably won't seem appreciably faster.

Follow the instructions on Apple's site for resetting the SMC. If you ever want them to come on full blast, follow the instructions for resetting the PMU on the G4 minis (I know it's not the same model, but doing it will cause the Mac mini to boot with the fan going full tilt).

I had a defective mini that wouldn't turn the fan on, ever, unless you reset the SMC as described in the second link. It would shut down if the temperature hit 80°C.

Our Intel core duo mini (w/2GB) is totally silent - cool and fast - very impressed and may be the best Apple for the $$$ - could not be more pleased.

That happened to me when I first did my Mini RAM upgrade. If yours has been opened for any reason, it's likely that this cable could be disconnected. I'm fairly sure it's right on the front of the Mini, when you open up the case.

You guys are great. i opened it up and sure enough the cable was undone popped it back in and I'm'm back to the whisper quiet that I love so much about these minis. thanks for the help!
