I'm looking at getting a new 'pro' laptop to use for film/video editing and wondering if I purchase a new Intel MacBook with Final Cut Pro if I will be able to use the FCP project file between that computer and the PPC G5s we use at University? I've done it the last few years with my emac (with FCP 4.5) at home and a firewire drive. The Uni computers currently have FCP 4.5 and DVD studio Pro 3 etc installed.
If I get a MacBook Pro, can I install FCP 4.5 or only FCP 5 (with the universal binary)? I've done some research on creating an older version project file from FCP 5 via 'XML export' to open in FCP 4.5 (to use at Uni) but I am not sure if this will work between Intel and PPC? Would it be better to go for a PPC Powerbook or the new flashier intel macbook? I would want it to last me at least 3 years and think the G4 would date quickly and lack newer software updates.
Thanks for your help!
