Close to pulling the trigger on a new MM.

Only concern is the Intel HD Graphics 3000 for playing 1080p on my 40" flatscreen. No problem?

Thanks

The Intel Graphics and/or any of the CPU options (whichever is actually processing the video) will have no issues playing back any 1080p content.

Ok, because my 2007 C2D MacBook can't play 1080p at all. 720p is pushing it. 4GB RAM. I my Macbook specs pale in comparison.

Chipset Model: GMA 950
Type: GPU
Bus: Built-In
VRAM (Total): 64 MB of Shared System Memory

The Intel HD3000 is more than capable of playing back 1080p content, I have mine connected to a Panasonic P42G20 42" tv and 1080p rips playback through XBMC / VLC without any problem and look amazing. I upgraded the ram in my macbook pro to 8gb and put the 4gb originally in my macbook pro into my mini.

I second that, I recently purchased a base mac mini 2011 from Amazon along with 8 gb ram and 1080 bluray rips looks awesome on my flat screen.

FYI-minis have a very good resale value so I suggest you pull that trigger.. check out amazon... 570 for base mini with no tax.. no shipping $...

My Late 2008 MacBook 2.0hz C2D can play 1080p fine. You need the right software which enables hardware acceleration, try Plex :)

Really? Cool. Well anyway this old MB has had its day. Plus anytime you start needing "the right software" to play back movies it means it's time to upgrade. Here we come Mac Mini.

p.s. I heard rumors that you might be able to connect 3rd party external graphics cards to the MM via firewire or something. Can't remember what it was.
