Intel iMac 17" external speakers don't work?

I have bought yesterday an intel imac 17" and I noticed that the external speakers I used to have connected to my G5's line-out port do not work. The computer does not even recognize them. But if I connect the speakers to the headphones port they work correctly.

Has anyone any idea how can I fix that?

EDIT: I am dumb. please delete this thread before someone makes fun of me :)
