I think some of us new Intel iMac owners may be reliving the video issues that plagued the Rev A iMac G5's. I'd like to know if anyone here has had this problem yet - and what they have done for it so far.

The first time I booted my new iMac, I was greeted with the gray boot screen, covered in a mess of random colored pixels that seemed to jump around the screen a tiny bit. I freaked out, but hardly had enough time to as the damn thing boots so fast. Once it booted into the OS everything seemed to be fine.

However, I've twice now woken it from sleep to find the same problem. Desktop is all garbled. I can move the mouse cursor, which has an interesting block of white pixels that follow it, but can't click on anything and have to reboot.

There are a couple of people on the Apple discussions with the same problem, but no real solution as of yet. I was wondering if anyone here has the same issue, or if any of you early gen iMac G5 owners find my description similar to those problems of the G5's?

That's deplorable for a brand new product. Apple needs to do something to resolve this issue immediately or there will no doubt be many first time Mac users who are scared away by it. I talked my best friend's brother into buying a new iMac soon, and if he opens it and it does the same thing, he will be less than thrilled with it (and so will I after many hours of working on him to switch). Come on Apple!

yeah apple seriuosly needs to get there act together as far as quality control, new product testing, and customer service.

I finally managed to talk my friend into getting a mac after a long drawn out process. He got his mini and was starting to like it I was telling him how to share files with his windows pc's and such and the computer worked for less than a day and then just shut off and wouldn't turn back on at all. That will happen occasionaly of course and he knows that. But his experience dealing with their customer service trying to get the situation resolved for several weeks combined with the unit breaking after a day has him deciding to get a cheap pc instead. Had they tested the unit before hand or something and/or gave better customer support then I think he would have gone for another mini.

I managed to snap a few shots of the problem this morning. I'll probably give Apple a ring this weekend when I have some free time, but does anyone have any idea what the problem might be from looking at these?

Just return it. It's not 2 weeks old and you are fully entitled to return it in under 2 weeks in almost any country for any reason.

I can attest to the fact that this is indeed a video card failure. I had a Rev. A iMac G5 with this problem. Demand Apple to fix it by giving you a new computer, not repairing this one. They "repaired" mine twice, and the third time the video card failed I demanded that they give me a new iMac, and I ended up with the Rev. C I have now.

:(

I had mine BTO.... so I guess I won't be seeing a new computer for a while, as I can't really just run to the store and swap them out.
