Okay, this is becoming slightly ridiculous!
Long story (you can skip this I'm just ranting
)
About a month ago the hard drive on my Intel iMac started acting really weird, randomly freezing and rebooting and after a few days it completely died. Two weeks ago I went out, bought a brand new hard drive (160 gigs, that's what I had in it: it was cheap and I have an external hard drive so I don't need much space internally)
I came back home, google'd for an how-to guide and found a few good ones. I've done that a million times on PCs so I wasn't nervous, plus the guides I found had pictures and good explanations in case something went wrong. I took my toolkit out, but couldn't find the good size torx screw driver to open the case. I had every size, except the one needed.
After asking friends and trying a few different toolkits, still no luck, so I drove to best buy, paid 50$ to get the job done. Two days after (that's today) I called Best Buy, and the guy there tells me my iMac has been sitting in a corner for 2 days because apparently they don't offer this service in store, and the guy that I talked to apparently did not know that. Another 2 days wasted.
Earlier today (after calling best buy) I found a small shop downtown that does it, but they charge 100$ an hour, and estimate the whole procedure to take about an hour. I then google'd some more and found that the screw driver I need is a size T8 torx, found online for 4$.
Long story short: Did anybody ever replaced their hard drive in an Intel iMac (first generation, white one)? Did you really use a T8 torx?
Thanks!
