Recently my 160GB HD in my 2006 iMac was clicking suspiciously. I used this as an opportunity to upgrade the HD to a 500GB one. Being fairly technically proficient, but noting that accessing the HD wasn't trivial, I brought it in to the campus apple certified repair shop--$40 for the peace of mind that it was going to be done right was worth it to me.
Two weeks ago, I picked it up from the store, plugged in my ext hd, CCC'd it back to it's original state and went on my way with a few caveats. 1) I noticed that the iSight light was always on, but thought that it might be something I'd never noticed before, or that there was a transfer glitch from old to new HD. 2) It had problems shutting down, pausing on the blue screen with the spinning wait icon stopped. Again I thought this might just be a bad clone of my HD.
I then checked and there is no isight in system profiler.
I a) Flashed PRAM, b) Flashed SMC c) repaired permissions (might as well) d) booted from an external drive e) Booted from install disks all to no avail.
I brought it back in and they claim that its a faulty isight board and want me to pay to repair it. I convinced them to check for pinched wires, etc. Do you guys think that the tech might have done something to affect the board, or is this just a strange coincidence or an issue of transport?
I'd be reasonably happy with no isight (use 4-5 times a year) but the shutting down problems worry me.
