Intel Imac (late 2006)...blank screen, no boot...any advice?

Hello all and I apologise in advance for posting what might appear to be a very common topic.....but I have tried everything I can find by way of advice and am still having no joy.

When pwering on my iMac, the white light on the lower right hand coner illuminates, there is a very short buzzing noise i.e HDD/fan and then the optical drive starts spinning....I have the original apple boot disc in there.

I do not seem to be getting any response from powering on whilst holding down C, in fact I am not sure keyboard or mouse (wireless) are connecting. I cannot eject the disc in the drive by either holding down mouse or eject button.

I have removed and subsequently reseated my RAM but seen no obvious change.

I get no startup sound upon power on.....effectively I am seeing very little in terms of response from the machine.

Does anyone have any ideas? I seem to have power but it clearly isn't booting and I have no visual interface.....?

I replaced my HDD drive apporx 6 months ago and all had seemed to be going fine so would assume this is not an issue?

Any adivce would be greatly appreciated........

Sounds like logic board failure. You should be able to boot from DVD if your HD fails but as you can't it's not HD failure.

Thanks for the response.....I was a little worried that it might be something significant like that sseing that I had exhausted all the possible other options/fixes.

I now have to turn my mind to repair/replacement. I guess this is going to be costly either way.

One thing I would ask for advice on.....we have suffered a lot of adverse weather of late....storms/lightening etc. Is there any chance that a power surge of some kind may have caused this damage and I could maybe approach my household insurer on this basis?

Yes a power surge from lightning could easily have taken it out.

The only safe way to ride out the storm is to unplug it, the surge suppressors and the warranty might sound nice. But unplugging is easier than trying to collect.

Yea, it's more than possible then. Your logic board is likely "fried" because of lightnings (too much electricity)

Call to Apple, but I think if it's fired or broken, forget it, it's gone. Logic board replacements costs ~1000$ which is more than your Mac's value

I think you are right.....it looks like replacement is now more likely than repair!

Thanks for your help......it looks like I have cover for this sort of thing so i will give it a go....i just look forward to thrashing out a new spec iMac with my insurers should I get that far.

You're welcome, mate. Did you buy AppleCare? If you did, you should still be under warranty, so Apple will fix it for free

Unless there are visible signs of overvoltage in the board, aka scorched spots, popped chips, etc.
