intel iMac memory questions?

Hi,

I have an intel iMac (Core Duo) with a single 1 gig ram. I am looking for an additional 1 gig ram.

Apple sells this for $360 (Canadian);
Apple Memory Module 1GB 667MHz DDR2 (PC2-5300) SO-DIMM

But I found this one (below) at a local shop for $169. Is this a good choice?

CORSAIR SODIMM 1024MB DDR2-667

Can anyone tell me what brand of memory Apple ships with their computers, or if there's any memory brands I should look for or avoid?

Corsair memory should work just fine. If it doesn't make sure you have a good return policy. I've used Patriot in my machines and those work too.

I'm also using Patriot (2 1GB in my MacBook, 1 1GB in my mini) with zero problems.

I saw Corsair on newegg.com and it had great reviews. It went with the Patriot because its reviews were equally as good, and at the time, it was less expensive.

I find it strange why people are so against Apple RAM. Especially in the new iMac, where 2GB isn't that overpriced. I got 2GB for 175 with edu discount, and to me it is a better deal than getting 1GB, ordering the other RAM, shipping, tax, and then install it yourself after getting it 10days after you get your computer.

Looks like for the iMac, $175 for 2x1GB is the normal price. That is a good deal.

The same 2x1GB memory from Apple for a MacBook is $500, and for a mini it's $250. This is why I upgraded my own.

Yeah I realize it is a ripoff for other products, but since were talking about the Intel iMac (I assume) I couldn't help not bring it up.

I actually bought my iMac when 1x512Meg was standard. It was something like $100 to upgrade to 2x512M, something like $200 to upgrade to 1x1G, something like $400 to upgrade to 2x1G.

So I upgraded to 1x1Gig at purchase time with the intention of adding another 1Gig later -- it's now later. ;-) Right now from Apple a 1Gig is $360, from a clone place it's $160; it's a bit of a no-brainer at this point.

Do you know if the prices were this good with the Core Duo iMacs, or was this something new with the Core 2 Duos?
