Matshita ... isn't that the mother company of Pioneer (the US branch?)
Matsushita is Panasonic/Technics/National.

Pioneer is, well, Pioneer and TAD.

Mine has a Pioneer drive. Looks like I'm in the minority. I got it when they first came out.

Is it safe to say that all 17" Intel iMacs are Pioneer and all 20" Intel iMacs are Matsushita?

No, mine is 17-inch and its Matshita. Mine was manufactured 2 days after Steve's keynote.

My iMac 20" rev. b has a Pioneer DVR-K05 as well, as another poster said his had as well.

My first one was a Matsushita, but it crapped out on me right away, and Apple replaced it with this Pioneer one instead...no problems so far.
